Jason Fried, Founder & CEO at Basecamp recently wrote a pretty opinionated Medium post saying that "Being tired isn’t a badge of honor". Ok, but what about the health boons of skimping on sleep? Just kidding, sleep is super important.
This is a frequent conversation topic for me. I like to wake up early. Remember issue 35? Yeah, well the #earlytobedearlytoshred mantra is often really 'late to bed, early to shred'. I'm not proud of little sleep but rarely find a way to get catch more Zzz's.
Especially after this past trip to DHI Labs' Impact Chapter Event in India for & Bristol for Bespoked, I've been exhausted for a week. A reality that I was/am in denial about. The takeaway? I still call bullshit on the 'needing 8hrs a night' idea but agree that in the long run, work is not more important than sleep. So, I'm challenging myself to get more sleep. 😴 😴 😴
As always, thanks for reading! : )
One of my local bike shops, Meesterknecht, is in their second season and have big plans for the future. Not only to grow as a bike-shop, but as a brand and platform for the cycling community. They have built up a customer base, offline as online. To be able to grow, they're looking for external support. Preferably looking for investors who also want to get their hands dirty. ; ) If you are interested get in touch with Tim and Sam via email@example.com
Finding, following and attending bunch rides just got easier. I had an interesting call with Craig that built this app this week. Most users are in Australia but a few sprinkled elsewhere around the globe too!
"Both of those words — trusted and knowledgeable — are critical, no matter whether you’re talking about big business or buying from a bike shops." I found a bike article about sales! Nice one Fat Cyclist!
"Even if my to do list is completely packed tomorrow, I try to focus on the tasks where I can be most useful to others. It makes me happy and sleep well at night." Tobias gets it.
"Think of a business’s margins as the gears on a bike. The higher the gear, the less you have to pedal to move forward. With a high margin business, you get a bigger slice of each dollar you earn, whereas a low margin business often nets you a few pennies per dollar."
“Most blog posts tell what to track on Mixpanel, but it would be great to know whats your approach when defining events and properties.” The team at NEXT nailed it with their first deep dive article.
When you embed a regular post-meeting debrief that incorporates these three elements into your meetings, you can help your team dramatically improve its play.
"Sales reps with the positive attitude always expect the best to happen and they are constantly winning sales." Sounds like bullshit. Have to say I agree though!
"Writing an email isn't so hard, but figuring out how to sign off can be a real challenge."
I'd say emails are hard but, yes, ending them is often overlooked and could be improved right?
The concept is pretty self explanatory. Go to Radiooooo.com, pick a country, pick a decade (from 1900 to Now), and then Radiooooo.com will rev up its time machine and serve up songs from that time and place. Instantly you can hear the radio music of 1930s Sudan, 1970s Russia, and 1990s Brazil. My favorite currently? 1970s Peru. They're raising money on indiegogo. Go, Go!
