Hello from a rainy summer Sunday evening in Amsterdam!
The dust from Eurobike has settled, my quick vacation from Verviers to Malmedy & then onwards to Monschau with some fun there is long over & last week was even already a full M-F at the office.
Mira & I did manage to record a song at Daft Recording Studios & friends visiting Amsterdam led to another DIY skate spot edit at Workspace Six. Speaking of which, our next BBQ is on the 12th: so mark your calendar & come by!
This week is Pride in Amsterdam, and not only do we have the biggest Progress Pride flag in the world, but there are some special events around cycling as well (ti.to/rapha-europe/prideride Aug 2 & ti.to/rapha-europe/pridetalk Aug 4). This year also marks the triumphant return of the world-famous Canal Parade! Who has an extra spot on a boat? ; )
as always, thank you for reading & sharing this newsletter!

The Loam & Gravel Society EP1 - Thunderbolts and Pine Trees
Inspired by the famous Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge, the group “wants people to do more with their bikes.” and in the series' 1st episode, Evan Christenson and Evan Green meet up to ride Bikepacking dot com's Chama Charmer route. It is a 117-mile route that starts in Chama New Mexico, and heads North to peek into Colorado before turning South to Ojo Caliente.
Keep Europe’s War Against Cars Out Of America
The concept that cars are a boon to families and improve lives and choice of jobs seems completely foreign to France and the UK, two countries I visited this month. –
Well, she did serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology at the United States Department of Transportation during the Trump Administration, if that is any indication...
Why are people so resistant if removing cars from urban areas means lower carbon emissions, less air pollution, and fewer road traffic accidents? After all, American roads are designed to be deadly and, in case you were wondering, this is the deadliest one.
Bicycle graveyards: why do so many bikes end up underwater?
Every year, thousands of bikes are tossed into rivers, ponds, lakes, and canals. What’s behind this mass drowning?

Quoc Pham on the Outspoken Podcast
Imagine being whisked away from your childhood home in the dead of night never to return again. Instead, you find yourself sailing on the open ocean for days, before seeking refuge on a tropical Island you’d come to call home for several years. For a young Quoc and his family, this was the beginning of their journey to the UK, and the start of a new life outside the communist regime of Vietnam.
This conversation chronicles the unexpected life of Quoc Pham, and his eponymous cycling footwear brand Quoc for what is a story about finding one’s identity, dogged perseverance, and evolution. Very inspiring and worth the listen for sure!
