On Thursday, I'll board a Eurostar to Paris and then another train direct to Girona for my very first Sea Otter Europe. Twotone has attended for several years, but typically Kike held it down for us & our clients. He'll be expecting the arrival of his first child in the coming weeks, so he's staying close to home!
I'll be joined by Twotone's newest colleague, Sjors Mahler, who has been running out of sales for several months now.
Last year was already big, with 64,000 visitors, +6,000 event participants, and +402 exhibiting brands. I'm very excited to see it all firsthand this weekend!
You'll catch me between three of Twotone's client booths:
- 🥸🚲 Moustache Bikes: will be back at Sea Otter with a full lineup of both next year models as well as demo whips to take for a spin. Everything from commuter, to cargo, to full-suspension shred sleds!
- 👴🏻⛰️ Old Man Mountain / Robert Axle Project: Bend-based OMM & RAP will be at the show showcasing their ever-expanding lineup of reliable & versatile gear hauling options, turning any bike into a bikepacking bike!
- 🚴♂️💨 Gravaa: will be bringing their Made in The Netherlands adaptable tire pressure hubs to the Costa Brava to offer test rides, meet riders, brands, and media. They're also announcing Velodrom as a new retailer & sponsoring the UCI Gravel World Series race on Saturday!
Please lemme know if you're also at the show and ensure we catch up by scheduling a time here. : )
Thank you for reading & wishing you a great week ahead,
Jon

Calendly Features Twotone

Ok, this isn't a bike link. Or is it? Calendly has been invaluable for me over the years & I'm so honored for them to have featured Twotone! Thank you!
Sofiane Detained in Russia + other stories of riding across Europe & Asia

Man, what a gnarly finale to his record breaking attempt. Been thinking about him a lot. I once was incarcerated underservingly. I can only imagine Russian jail is worse than Fulton County in Atlanta...

The Lost Art Of Thinking Historically

"Thinking historically is valuable but rare. Most of us encounter “history” in up to three ways, none of which cultivates this deeper consciousness." History learned in school, public history, and/or bestselling books and documentaries doesn't help you think historically, which begins by questioning vertical and horizontal time: The vertical axis asks: How did we get here? & The horizontal axis asks: What else is happening? A great article!
You Need to Be Bored. Here's Why
"You need to be bored. You will have less meaning and you will be more depressed if you never are bored. I mean, it couldn’t be clearer." Crazy take. Especially for me because I always told my kids that only boring people get bored. Turns out, I should just said: "good!" 😉 A related read: "no one is going to protect your brain for you" 🧠

Home Front Single, Graham Sayle Interview + Turnstile Tiny Desk & Interview too!

Bending the rules, putting this in the friends section but last week was a banner week for some of my favorite bands. 😉 Home Front's new single rules. I played it last week on The Mechanics of Joy. I'm a massive fan & will see them in The Hague in February for the 3rd time already! Also, Graham from High Vis has an interview in Huck Magazine that is worth reading. High Vis is touring with Turnstile this year & I'll see them for a 2nd time in November & will see Turnstile for the 4th time. 🤭 Turnstile has a great interview in High Snobiety + their incredible Tiny Desk performance. Stage dive and jazz (ska?) section? Amazing.
